Atiq Rehman, founder of Unspoken – A New Voice for Kindness, said:

“These are not just names on a T-shirt or photographs on a campaign. They are somebody’s child. They were loved, they had families, dreams and futures.

We cannot change what these families have been through, but we can stand beside them. We can say their children’s names, honour their memories and turn unimaginable pain into something that brings kindness to another child.

Every toy we hand over represents a smile created in the name of a child who should still be here.

This is bigger than a toy drop. It is remembrance, awareness and a message to every bereaved family involved: you do not walk this journey alone.”

The campaign also hopes to raise greater awareness of the dangers children can face online and encourage conversations between parents, schools, communities and young people about keeping children safer in digital spaces.

The Grimsby drop forms part of a much wider national journey taking place across 22 and 23 August, with Unspoken travelling to hospitals connected to participating families.

Members of the public, businesses and organisations are being encouraged to support the campaign through donations of brand-new toys and by helping spread the message.

At the heart of the weekend is one promise:

·      Their stories are not over.

·      Their names will be remembered.

·      And kindness will continue in their memory.
